WICA 2025 Year-in-Review

Dear Neighbors,

Now that 2025 has come to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on what we accomplished together.

Throughout the year, our community showed up—on Zoom, in neighborhood parks, and in ongoing conversations about how to keep Wissahickon a great place to live. As the registered community organization (RCO) for our neighborhood, WICA is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to representing neighbors, stewarding public spaces, and guiding development in a way that reflects our shared values.

In 2025, we…

Hosted 13 Monthly Meetings & Civic Conversations

From zoning updates and traffic safety to community partnerships and park cleanups, our regular meetings created space for meaningful discussion and collective problem-solving.

Organized 4 Park Cleanups

La Noce Park, the Wissahickon War Memorial, and Montgomery Field all received special care through organized community cleanups. Thank you to everyone who raked, planted, weeded, and helped maintain our beloved green spaces.

Held Our First Free Movie Night

We were thrilled to welcome neighbors to La Noce Park for our first-ever movie night. We laughed, we cried, and we enjoyed Inside Out 2 together under the stars. What movie should we show next?

Celebrated the 2nd Annual La Noce Park Rhythms

Our free live music event returned for another successful year. Neighbors gathered with blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy performances by local musicians The Schist Creek Stompers, Drew Nugent & The Midnight Society, and One Madison Park, along with sweet treats from Frios Gourmet Pops.

Led 3 Community Meetings for La Noce Park Redesign

WICA partnered with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Philadelphia Capital Program Office, and Councilmember Jones’s Office to plan much-needed upgrades to La Noce Park. Renovations are slated to begin in late spring or early summer 2026. Stay tuned for updates!

 Advocated on Zoning Issues

After more than four years of negotiations, surveys, meetings, and even a community rally, WICA was able to state non-opposition to a revised application for 90 Rochelle Ave, believing the result to be consistent with the RSA-3 zoning and the surrounding neighborhood context. This outcome is a testament to sustained community engagement and careful, persistent advocacy.

 Wissahickon Transit Center Opening

A major milestone in our neighborhood’s infrastructure was the ribbon cutting and official opening of the new Wissahickon Transit Center in December. WICA was involved in the planning process over the years, engaging with SEPTA and our community to help shape the project and make sure neighborhood priorities were heard. We’re proud to see this major investment come to life, bringing safer, more reliable transit connections to Wissahickon and beyond.

WICA Recognition

WICA was proudly honored at Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr.’s 15th Annual Block Captain Boot Camp with a City of Philadelphia Citation Award, receiving recognition from City Council, State Representative Tarik Khan, and Senator Vincent Hughes. This acknowledgment celebrated WICA’s preservation advocacy and ongoing civic engagement on behalf of the Wissahickon community.

Looking Ahead: Continuing the Work in 2026

As we begin the new year, our Board and committees will continue to rely on neighbors’ voices to guide decisions, respond to emerging issues, and keep our corner of Northwest Philadelphia vibrant.

The 2026 membership cycle is open! Renew your membership—or join for the first time—and support a stronger Wissahickon. Join or Renew by 5:00 PM on February 11 to be entered into our annual raffle. Winners will be announced at the membership meeting on February 11 at 7pm.

Thank You

None of this happens without you.

Whether you logged into Zoom to ask a tough question, spent a Saturday morning pulling weeds at La Noce Park, became a member or renewed your membership, or simply stayed informed and shared information with a neighbor—you were part of what WICA accomplished in 2025.

Here’s to an even stronger, greener, and more connected Wissahickon in 2026.

Warmly,

The WICA Board
